NORTHEAST CHAPTER MISSION:
The Northeast Chapter of the UHMS continuing education mission is to promote
educational activities for physicians and allied health professionals in the
local and regional areas based on a needs assessment of the members and on the
UHMS Panel of Expert Opinion. These activities will improve the scientific and
practical knowledge in the areas of hyperbaric oxygen treatment and diving
medicine.
The Conference Program will feature a number of outstanding local speakers,
concurrent sessions. The Conference attracts researchers and practitioners from
all around the world and provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and extend
contacts.

BACKGROUND ON THE UHMS:
The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) is an International,
non-profit organization serving over 2,500 members from more than 50 countries.
Most UHMS members are diving or hyperbaric/wound care physicians and
scientists. The Associate members are composed of nurses, technicians, respiratory
therapists and others who work in the field of diving and hyperbaric/wound care
medicine. The UHMS is the primary source of information for diving, wound care
and hyperbaric medicine and physiology worldwide. It was founded as the
Undersea Medical Society in 1967 but in 1986 changed the name to Undersea and
Hyperbaric Medical Society. The name change reflects the rapidly growing
interest in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The UHMS's purpose is to: provide
scientific information to protect the health of sport, military, public safety,
and commercial divers improve the scientific basis of hyperbaric oxygen therapy
promote sound treatment protocols and standards of practice provide CME
accreditation.
